What we collect, and why.
Plain-language version first. The detailed version follows. Last updated October 2026.
The short version
- We collect what we need to schedule and provide your care: your name, contact details, your baby's age, your address for home visits, and the feeding history you share with us.
- We do not sell your information. We do not use it for advertising.
- We share it only with people you ask us to (like your pediatrician), with services that help us run the practice (like scheduling software), or when the law requires it.
- You can see, correct, or ask us to delete your information at any time.
Information we collect
What you give us. When you book, contact us, or attend a visit: your name, email, phone number, home address, your baby's date of birth or due date, and the feeding, health, and family information you choose to share so we can provide care.
Clinical notes. During visits we record observations, measurements such as weighted feeds, and the care plan we agree on. These are part of your care record.
Website data. Basic technical information such as browser type and pages visited, used to keep the site working and to understand how visitors find and use it. The site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies and gives us visit statistics such as pages viewed and how many people request a visit. It never receives your name, contact details, or health information, and nothing you enter in the booking or contact forms is sent to it.
How we use it
- To schedule, provide, and follow up on your care.
- To prepare superbills, on request, that you can submit to your insurer.
- To send appointment confirmations and reminders by email or text.
- To coordinate with other providers when you ask us to.
- To meet legal and professional record-keeping obligations.
Who we share it with
We share your information only with: service providers who help us operate, such as scheduling, messaging, and secure record-keeping tools, each bound by contract to protect it; other healthcare providers with your consent; and authorities when required by law or to protect someone's safety.
Health information and HIPAA
Depending on how the practice bills, it may be a "covered entity" under HIPAA. Either way, we treat your health information with the same care: stored in secure, access-controlled systems, shared only as described here, and never used for marketing without your written permission. If HIPAA applies, you also have the rights described in our Notice of Privacy Practices, which we also give you with your intake forms.
Texting and email
Text and standard email are convenient but not fully secure. We use them for scheduling and general follow-up. For anything sensitive, we will use a secure messaging tool or the phone. You can opt out of texts at any time by replying STOP.
How long we keep it
Care records are kept for the period required by Texas law and professional standards, generally at least seven years, and longer for records relating to a minor. Contact form messages that do not lead to care are deleted within one year.
Your choices
You may ask to see, correct, or receive a copy of your information, ask us to restrict how we use it, or ask us to delete information we are not legally required to keep. Email isabel@motherhoodbegins.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Our services are for adults caring for infants. We collect information about your baby only as part of your care, and only from you.
Changes and contact
If we change this notice, we will post the new version here with a new date. Questions go to isabel@motherhoodbegins.com or Motherhood Begins, Austin, Texas.
