Getting started
What is an IBCLC?
IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, the highest credential in lactation care. It requires clinical education, hundreds of hours of clinical practice, and an international exam, and it has to be renewed over time. Isabel Price is an IBCLC with additional certificates in tongue-tie care (Oral Habilitation of the Breastfeeding Dyad: A Master Class for IBCLCs) and bottle refusal (Guiding Bottle Breakthroughs), and training in breast pump flange fitting (Flange Fitting for Clinical Practice, Babies in Common).
When should I call a lactation consultant?
When feeding hurts, when you're worried your baby isn't getting enough, when latching is a struggle, when your supply seems low or too high, or when something just doesn't feel right. You don't need to wait for a crisis. The sooner you call, the easier it usually is to fix.
Can I see you before my baby is born?
Yes. The Prenatal Feeding Consult covers every way of feeding, including formula preparation, and helps you prepare for hospital surprises from a C-section to a NICU stay. It's $225 in your home or $150 as a virtual consultation.
How soon after birth can you come?
Isabel recommends a first visit around day five after birth, unless you need support sooner. If feeding hurts or you're worried, don't wait: reach out and she'll see you as soon as she can. It helps to get in touch before your due date so a visit can be planned.
Can you come today?
Often, yes. Monday to Friday, reach out by 11 am by phone, text, email, or the contact form, and Isabel will do her best to see you that day. A Same-Day Urgent Visit is $400, subject to availability. For a medical emergency, call 911 or your baby's doctor.
Is there a free call to get started?
Yes. The Introduction Call is free, takes 15 minutes, and comes with no obligation. Tell Isabel what's going on and she'll tell you which visit makes the most sense. Request one through the contact form, or by phone or text, and Isabel will set up a time with you.
Visits
What happens during a home visit?
We start by talking through what's going on. Then Isabel watches a full feed, weighs your baby before and after, and helps with latch, positioning, and comfort, while checking in on how you're doing. Before she leaves, you'll make a plan together, and you'll have seven days of message support afterward.
How long are visits?
Initial visits are 75 minutes, follow-up visits 60 minutes, Same-Day Urgent Visits 75 minutes, and Virtual Check-Ins 30 minutes. Visits are never rushed.
What should I have ready for the visit?
A few simple things help the visit go smoothly:
- Have your baby ready to feed when Isabel arrives.
- Put pets away.
- Clear a flat area for the baby scale, and have a receiving blanket and a diaper ready for weighing.
- Write your questions down ahead of time.
Your partner or support person is welcome to join.
Do you offer virtual visits?
Yes, anywhere in Texas. Virtual Check-Ins are 30 minutes for $75, and prenatal and back-to-work consults are also available as virtual consultations. Some things, like weighing your baby or assessing oral function, are best done in person.
Do you see twins?
Yes. Twin visits take longer, so add $75 to each visit.
Can we have a visit in Spanish?
Yes. Isabel is bilingual, and every visit is available in English or Spanish.
Feeding topics
I'm combination feeding or using formula. Is this still for me?
Yes. The goal is a fed baby and a mother who feels like herself. Pumping, bottles, formula, paced feeding, supply, weaning, and everything in between. No lectures.
Can you help with tongue-tie?
Yes, it's one of Isabel's specialties. She holds a certificate in Oral Habilitation of the Breastfeeding Dyad: A Master Class for IBCLCs, assesses oral function at every visit, and uses targeted exercises to improve latch and suck. When a release might help, she refers you to a trusted local pediatric dentist and supports feeding before and after the release.
My baby won't take a bottle. Can you help?
Yes. Isabel holds the Guiding Bottle Breakthroughs certification in bottle refusal. The Bottle Refusal Consult is for babies under 4 months old and happens in your home, with your bottles. It covers nipple and flow, paced feeding, timing, and who offers the bottle, with a step-by-step plan for the next two weeks. It's $250.
Do you help with low supply, pain, or nipple shields?
Yes. Low milk supply, painful latch, weaning off a nipple shield, and ending triple feeding are some of the most common problems Isabel works through with families.
Pumping hurts, or I'm not getting much milk. Could it be my flange size?
It might be. Many parents pump with the flange size that came in the box, and a poor fit can cause pain and leave milk behind. Isabel trained in Flange Fitting for Clinical Practice with Babies in Common. At a home visit she can measure, fit your flanges (including inserts), and adjust your pump settings. The Back to Work and Pumping Plan is built around this.
I'm going back to work. Can you help me with pumping?
Yes. The Back to Work and Pumping Plan includes flange fitting, a pumping schedule that works with your workday, milk storage, and tips for talking with your employer. It's $225 in your home or $150 as a virtual consultation.
Cost and payment
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Motherhood Begins is in network with Curative and bills Curative directly for covered visits. Isabel verifies your benefits before confirming your visit, and you pay only what your plan requires. For other insurance plans, you pay for your visit yourself (HSA and FSA cards are welcome) and can ask for a superbill to submit to your insurer. Many families are reimbursed in part or in full. We don't submit claims to insurers other than Curative. How Curative visits work.
How do I pay?
Your card on file (credit, debit, HSA, or FSA) is charged after your visit. The Newborn Care Package is paid in full when you book.
What's in the Newborn Care Package?
It's for babies under 3 months: a 75- to 90-minute initial visit and two 60-minute follow-up visits, with follow-up messaging in between. It's $675, which saves $150 compared with booking the same three visits separately ($325 + $250 + $250 = $825). Founding families who book by December 31 pay $599, saving $226. Visits can be used within 6 months of your first visit. See the terms for refund details.
Is there a travel fee?
No, travel is included anywhere in Isabel's service area: Central Austin, Mueller, North Austin, Northeast Austin, Northwest Austin, Jollyville, Anderson Mill, Four Points, River Place, Steiner Ranch, West Lake Hills, Rollingwood, Barton Creek, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Spicewood, Cedar Park, Round Rock, Pflugerville, and more. See service areas or check your ZIP code. Visits farther out are by arrangement.
What is your cancellation policy?
Reschedule or cancel free with at least 24 hours' notice. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your visit, or you aren't available when Isabel arrives, a $100 fee is automatically charged to your card on file.
